Dr. Daniel Fernandes S.J, Principal of St. Joseph’s College of Commerce, received the prestigious Kempegowda award, instituted by the BBMP, as part of the Kempegowda Day celebration.
Kempegowda Day, named after the ruler Kempegowda who is considered to be the founder of Bangalore, was celebrated for the first time in Bangalore on 27th June 2014. This grand celebration was accompanied by various cultural programmes and Kempegopwda Award distribution ceremony. The chief guest for this ceremony was the honourable chief minister of Karnataka, Mr. Siddaramaiah. There was a huge crowd gathered outside the BBMP headquarters to watch the award distribution ceremony.
BBMP honored 187 citizens, who have contributed and dedicated themselves to serve the society in their respective fields, with the Kempegowda Award. Fr. Daniel Fernandes S J was one among the recipients of the award for his contribution to the field of education. The student council of St. Joseph’s College of Commerce and members of the staff shared the proud moment with him.
When asked to share his thoughts on receiving the award, he said that he was very happy and proud that his dedication towards the field of education was recognized and passed on the credit to the students and the college. He also added that it is not a recognition that he has received, but is a recognition that the college as a whole deserves.
